AAPM 2022 Election Statement

AAPM is calling on all political parties and candidates to recognise Practice Managers as the critical nexus between health policy, clinicians and consumers. The election statement forms part of the AAPM’s advocacy efforts to represent Practice Managers and the healthcare sector.

The election statement identifies three policy directions:

  1. Committing to primary care reform through co-leadership and change management
  2. Developing Practice Managers as Practice Leaders
  3. Recognising AAPM as the peak professional body that will assist in achieving Government health priorities.

These three directions reinforce the critical role of Practice Managers as the nexus between policy, clinicians and consumers and hence facilitators of practice change.

Ongoing commitment to primary care reform must incorporate Practice Management as a consideration in workplace planning. Australia’s Primary Health Care 10 Year Plan has identified workforce recruitment and retention requirements for clinical workers, and this needs to include consideration of the future workforce needs in Practice Management.

The evolving nature of the profession will require ongoing professional development, with AAPM requesting initiatives to address the skill requirements of new, aspiring and experienced Practice Managers.

AAPM is also calling on all political parties to continue Commonwealth programs that support peak health organisations.

The Election Statement provides the foundations for the AAPM to undertake further advocacy throughout the current election and the next term of Government.
