Government-funded program offers support for leave when casual staff are in short supply

Leave requests and unexpected absences in health facilities are often difficult to cover when the casual pool of staff are in short supply. This scenario is all too real for rural and remote health services around Australia and the weight is shouldered by the remaining nurses and midwives who take on more of the workload to offset reduced staff numbers.

New Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) eLearning education modules available

The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) is a national register that can record vaccines given to people of all ages in Australia. This includes all vaccines funded under the National Immunisation Program, vaccines provided under State and Territory vaccination programs and most privately funded vaccines, including influenza and travel vaccines.

GP incentives increased to enrol DVA clients

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) has increased incentive payments for General Practitioners (GPs) to enrol eligible patients in the Coordinated Veterans’ Care (CVC) program. The benefits of enrolling your patients, including reduced hospital admissions, were recently highlighted in an in-depth evaluation of the program.

GP clinics receive an initial incentive payment to enrol eligible DVA clients, then quarterly care payments thereafter. The new DVA fee schedule for CVC claims, including an increase in payments, came into effect on 1 July 2018.
