More than 5,000 practices and 7,000 medical practitioners will be eligible for incentive payments under the new Workforce Incentive Program (WIP). From early 2020, WIP will provide targeted incentives to encourage doctors, nurses, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners and allied health professionals to deliver services in rural and remote areas. The WIP rationalises existing health workforce incentive programs into a single program with 2 streams of payments. Calculations are based on the updated Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2019 to ensure incentives and rural loadings are correctly targeted to rural area WIP - Doctor stream from 1 January 2020 WIP- Practice stream from 1 February 2020 Medical practitioners and practices will automatically transition to the WIP.
