AAPM Welcomes Mark Butler as Minister for Health

Friday 10, Jun 2022

“The aims of the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce cannot be achieved without the involvement of Practice Managers who embed policy change within health care practices”, Miranda Grace, AAPM CEO stated. “It is utterly bewildering that Minister Butler has not recognised the importance of Practice Managers in the composition of the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce”.

Practice Managers are the nexus between consumers, clinicians and policy, responsible for delivering change within health care practices, by overseeing change management, and supporting processes.

“The exclusion of Practice Managers shows that Minister Butler has a complete lack of understanding in how practices operate. The Government must view Practice Managers as a distinct stakeholder group that require representation on the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce” Ms Grace concluded.

The Albanese Government has committed to the delivery of the 10 Year Primary Health Care Plan, grants to support upskilling of staff, as well as the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce.

The 2022 AAPM election statement requested funding to support workforce planning skills development and ongoing recognition of AAPM as a peak health organisation.

“There is definite alignment between AAPM’s priorities, including workforce planning and support for upskilling and Government policies. We reinforce that the while the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce is a welcomed, it is vital Practice Managers are represented as a distinct stakeholder group. We look forward to working with Minister Butler to advance universal, prompt and world class medical care.”, Ms Grace concluded.
