WorkCover QLD Medical table of costs annual review

WorkCover Queensland will again review and update the medical fees applicable for workers’ compensation in Queensland on 1 December 2018. This will affect the Medical items table of costs and the Supplementary table of costs for GPs and specialists.

The Medical items table of costs annual review is done in conjunction with the release of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) List of Medical Services and Fees and the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fees. WorkCover Queensland adopts the MBS items, explanations, definitions, rules and conditions for services provided by medical practitioners and fees are generally in line with the AMA fee list.

The Supplementary table of costs for both GPs and specialists provide for item codes that fall outside the MBS and are utilised by workers’ compensation insurers specifically for referred services such as independent medical examination fees, case conferences, medical reports and other communication. This table will also be reviewed for accuracy and appropriateness.

If you have any suggestions or feedback regarding the review of the Medical items table of costs or the Supplementary table of costs for GPs and specialists, please email
ryan.seymour@workcoverqld.com.au before 21 September, 2018.

Separate to this annual table of costs review, WorkCover Queensland is conducting research into fee models that will enhance return to work for injured workers while balancing costs for employers. They’ll be investigating options for improvements in timely and quality services that deliver better outcomes and consistent positive experiences for their customers. More information will be shared in the coming months.
