In case you missed it. . .

Is your practice prepared for a data breach?

Data breaches can happen at any time. It may be from deliberate unauthorised access to information your organisation holds or it could be accidental human error.

It’s important that you’re prepared to act quickly. The faster your organisation can respond to a breach, the better chance of effectively limiting any negative consequences.

Services Australia can help you. You can contact Services Australia if you experience a data breach and they can:

  • provide advice about your obligations for a data breach
  • work with your organisation, nominated agents and legal representatives
  • contribute to your communications with affected individuals
  • add identity security measures to customer Medicare records
  • reissue log in credentials for PRODA or linked services such as HPOS or NDIS.

It’s important you know about your obligations to report data breaches to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. The OAIC has just released its new Data Breach Action Plan for health service providers. Read the plan to prepare against a data breach and know how to manage your response.
