Changes to Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) – September

In response to the recommendation made by the ‘Independent Review of Health Providers' Access to Medicare Card Numbers’ the following changes will be made to HPOS in September.

Changes to the multiple patient verification request service in HPOS

From 8th September 2018, there will be changes to the maximum number of multiple patient verification checks allowed in a request upload through HPOS. The current daily maximum limit will reduce from 500 to 50 patients check per request upload. However, the existing limit of one upload request per day will remain.

Exemptions

In certain circumstances an exemption to the new maximum daily limit may be granted by the Department upon a written application.

Current users of the multiple patient verification check service have been directly contacted to submit their applications now to maintain their current maximum daily limit.

From 8th September, an individual provider or a health services PKI Site Certificate Authorised Officer will be able to submit a written application in HPOS for an exemption.

More information will be available on the Department’s website in September.

Changes to the Terms and Conditions

From September 8th, you will only be required to read and accept the HPOS Terms and Conditions the first time you login or when there is a change made to the conditions. Health professionals will need to read and accept the Terms and Conditions in order to access your HPOS services the next time they log in.

More changes to come

Further changes to support the review recommendations will be made to HPOS in December. More information will be provided closer to the time.
