Start ensuring patient demographic data is accurate
By clarifying personal data with patients when they visit your practice you're well placed to get the most out of eHealth. Make sure:
We need to have accurate information to get accurate information back. For more information on patient identification and the standard expected of practices go to page 78 of the RACGP Standards for general practices (4th ed.)
Register for the Healthcare Identifier (HI) Service
To get involved with the HI Service your practice needs to sign up for an HPI-O. For more information, contacts & resources on the HI Service visit our HI Service page
Open a dialogue with your software provider
We understand that there are many different medical software providers, each will be preparing for eHealth uniquely. Ask them where they are situated with eHealth compatability and make sure you have the latest versions of software installed so you can take part in the HI Service and eventually the eHealth Record.
Discuss eHealth with colleagues
Having everyone in your practice; medical receptionists, health practioners and Practice Managers, on the same page is important for getting the most out of eHealth. Eventually, you may find that patients will want to know more about their eHealth options so keeping yourself and others in your practice up to date with developments is advised.
Stay educated
Make your first stop the eHealth section on this website for new resources, information and updates. Keep an eye out for eHealth events in your area and lookout for relevant articles in The Practice Manager journal.
