Today, practitioners spend a great deal of time tracking down records and test results for their patients - time which could be better spent treating their patients. eHealth records will give practitioners the right information at the right time.
An eHealth record will not replace existing medical records nor will it be a replacement for taking notes of a patient's history or reviewing existing clinical notes. An eHealth record will contain summaries of patients' key healthcare events and activities. More detailed information about these healthcare events and activities will remain in the practice management software held within the practice. Healthcare organisations will be able to access eHealth records from 1 July 2012.
